Children’s Books That Prompt the Conversations of Race + Racism

In the midst of a fight for social justice and equality, many have forgotten the conversations that need to be had with children.

As some of you may have seen, I created a thread on Twitter that went viral.

As an educator, I always have to consider what’s going on in the environment around my students, and how will that show up in the classroom (virtual or not). In the wake of George Floyd’s death, preceded by Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, our city, our country, our world has seen protests and debates about what does racism look like, and how do adults become allies to help fight it. A conversation I was not seeing had, was the topic of children, and the necessity to have these tailored conversations with them as well. So, I created my thread.
